CHARTER SCHOONER 'LUZ DEVINA'

Capt. Donald R. Reid, director of Andetur International, and partner in the marine company 'Caçadores do Mar Ltda' invites you to cruise with us on the traditional Brazilian trading schooner 'Luz Divina' along the beautiful northeast coast of Brazil. SEE DETAILS BELOW!

CHARTER SCHOONER 'LUZ DEVINO'
DETAILS OF THE VESSEL: Classed as a 'saveiro', traditional wooden schooner.
Built in 1960, Luz Divina was completely remodeled in 1995, these type vessels properly maintained can last well over 100 years.
18 meters long, about 65 ft, the vessel is licensed for Tourism with a day capacity of 60 passengers + crew; overnight capacity 6 - 12 passengers.
Speed under power - 6 kts., under sail 8 - 10 kts. Engine is a MWM Diesel 60 HP Gear ZF 2/1
Electronics consist of a - VHF radio, SSB radio, Cellular Phone, Sat Phone, and a GPS navigation system. A stereo sound system is onboard.
Accomodations include a master cabin and presently will have six bunks, American style galley, 2 heads (tiolets), and shower.
Owned and operated by previous owner for 7 years, the vessel is well known in the tourist guides of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.
The vessel is presently in the port of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and must be delivered to Natal where it will be operated as a day charter boat along the coast, with occasional charters to the Island of Fernando do Noronho, some 300 km off the coast of Rio Grande do Norte.
The objective of our investment is to start a sailing charter operation along this coast where only one other small day charter operation exists presently, and to start the business of charters to the island. The schooner will be leased to and operated by Andetur Brasil, which operates the Brazilian Travel Club and has all of the necessary licenses to operate the tourism business.
The vessel will be completely equipped for 'diving charters' as well as cruising.

TYPICAL SCHOONER CRUISING ON BRAZILIAN COAST
Andetur will be constructing a second, larger, boat to be used for the island tours within the next two years. It has been suggested that our Andetur Brazilian Travel Club, with our objectives of soft adventure, cultural immersion and responsible ecotourism, during certain times of the year consider other cruises of this type, possibly as far north as the Amazon, certainly into the delta area of Piaui and Maranhao.

Note: This picture is more or less the type and size of the proposed new vessel to be constructed
North of Rio from Salvador to Fortaleza, the coast of Brazil is very different, called "the Golden Coast", 3,480 kilometres of "lively beaches, deserted beaches, beaches with dunes, beaches with coloured sand etc etc"' (to quote a travel feature). But beyond the beautiful beaches of north east Brazil, the coast changes and there is a complete contrast. There the Amazon meets the sea but not, as you might think, in an impressive delta like that of the Mississippi in the USA. The Amazon splits into just two main channels. The force of its current is such that it can push its yellowy silt several hundred kilometres out into the Atlantic.
MAIDEN TRIP (July 2003) - Salvador, Bahia to Natal, Rio Grande do Norte
On or about July 10, we plan to leave Salvador, Bahia - destination Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. For this trip, the plan is to sail in the daytime - stopping enroute at the ports of Aracaju, Maceio, Recife, Cabedelo (Joao Pessoa) and finally Natal. We are considering taking along a crew (or guests) of from 10 - 20 club members who will actually help us work the vessel. At night we plan to, when we stop at these ports, spend the night ashore at local pousadas (small hotels) and your evenings will be free to inspect the local attractions.
The duration of the actual trip will be four to five days. The last day, before arriving in Natal, if we have time we may stop at Baia Formosa or the Praia of Pipa.
We suggest those traveling with us to arrive a few days ahead of time and enjoy the sights in Salvador, which is considered the origin of Brazilian culture ... and, when we finish, take time to spend a few days in Natal. Local guides and day tours (or evening tours at the stops enroute) are available.
This initial voyage is considered a private adventure for Club Members only. For the voyage (all inclusive) including the costs of the pousadas enroute, meals, beverages onboard, and meals ashore, the charge will be:
US$ 1,000.00
This will include a day tour in Salvador of the historic city; and a day tour of Natal upon arrival. Since the rules specify that all must be club members for the trip, this charge will include a five year membership in the Andetur Brazilian Travel Club, which entitles you to discounts all over the country.
International Air to Brazil will be quoted separately at 'Club Discounts'.
ADD-ON's for 'extra days' in Salvador or Natal will also be quoted at 'Club Discounts'.
Because of the unique nature of this trip (not a normal tourist trip), we suggest you BOOK EARLY because spaces will go very quickly.
NEW CLUB MEMBERS THAT JOIN DURING THIS PROMOTION WILL ALSO GET 20% OFF OF ANY FUTURE TRIPS WHEN WE START OUR REGULAR CRUISES. See also Fernando do Noronho.

NEW MEMBERS THAT JOIN THRU THIS LINK (BEFORE MID JUNE), AND CAN NOT MAKE THE INITIAL TRIP AT THIS TIME, WILL RECEIVE A US$ 500 OR A 20% CREDIT ON ANY SCHOONER TRIP OR ANY OTHER PACKAGE THAT ANDETUR HAS TO OFFER. All membership fees paid are placed in a special investment fund managed by AGM (Andetur Group Managenment); the purpose of the fund is to invest in new activities of interest to Club Members.
