A Chilean Angling Adventure
Imagine if you could travel back in time 60 or more years to fly fish the great rivers of the North American West! Imagine casting into pristene waters for big rainbow and brown trout! This adventure can still be yours... in the South American West. The enchanting land of Patagonia offers the angler an opportunity to catch, photograph and release the trout of a lifetime.
January through March, trout are the primary quarry. Dry flies are the main focus and great hatches are always happening somewhere. In the lakes and rivers of Chile you'll be casting after some of the world's largest and most genetically healthy trout (originally imported from the U.S. West and Europe, and now being re-introduced to North America to bolster the gene pool).
While on your fly fishing trip you'll enjoy the magnificent South American scenery, excellent Chilean hospitality in the town of Coyhaique, as well as comfortable, modern accommodations smack in the middle of some of the hottest trout fishing anywhere.
Your guide: David Frederick
Born and raised in Seattle, David has been around salmon, trout and steelhead his whole life. He has worked for three lodges in different parts of Alaska including Enchanted Lake Lodge in the heart of the amazing Bristol Bay trout fishery. During the summers of `90 and `91 he guided out of SunValley, ID on the technical waters of Silver Creek. David has been the owner and operator of Southern Latitudes since it's beginnings in 1993 and was guiding for two years prior to that in southern Chile. David is fluent in Spanish and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Fisheries Biology and has a great love for the biological aspects of fly fishing.

Dear David: Our fly fishing trip with you in Coyhaique, Chile, was beyond our wildest expectations. We were impressed with your professional expertise and detailed knowledge of the local rivers, acquired with years of painstaking observation. We want to thank you for your calm patience, helpful teaching and tremendous support for a couple whose backgrounds ranged from novice to experienced. Your professionalism as a fly fisherman and your humor, calm demeanor and thoughtfulness as an outdoorsman and guide made our trip very special indeed. The spectacular scenery of Chile and the beautiful solitude of the rivers remain with us in memories. We are glad we have photos to prove this amazing fishing expedition - so many fish we stopped counting and Karen's first fish on a fly -what a beauty! We hope to see you again, and we thank you for a terrific trip. And we are particularly delighted that we were your first internet clients! What a wonderful experience for us. Thank-you! All the best to you. Yours, Karen and

May 15, 1998 Dear David: We are back in Connecticut after our wonderful trip to South America. Although we are not fully unpacked I didn't want more time to pass before thanking you for providing us with an unforgettable fishing experience. The Miller's and we fell in love with the beautiful Patagonian region of Chile. Our accommodations were up to the level of the fishing lodges where we have stayed in North America and New Zealand. The food was amazingly good and having our evening meals at both the lodge and three different quality restaurants in Coyhaique was a special treat. The Chilean people we met were all cheerful and helpful. Your part of Chile is by far the most comfortable place we found in South America. The fishing was excellent and varied. The browns and the rainbows were large and plentiful. It was a pleasant surprise that the ratio of guides to guests was one to two and that your assisting guides had so many years of experience in both North and South America. Please give them our best. We have never met nicer men or better guides. The two days in the drift boat were amazing and the one day in the raft was unexpected. You should tell prospective clients about the beautiful rivers and the white water rafting that takes them to some of the world's best trout fishing. As you can see you were a perfect host and a wonderful guide. I wouldn't change a thing about the experience you provide. Should you want a testimonial--I'm your guy. Hope to see you again soon. Best regards, Walter E.
