Below are listed the standard 5 day packages which the hotels offer in Rio for Carnival.  All of the hotels mentioned are in well located either next to Copacabana or Ipanema beach.  Please note that we do have others to work with, but this list will give you a fair idea of the rates ... any of the other will be very close to these prices.

We work with 'Incoming Tour Operators' that provide the best liaison or ground support service in Rio.

The Carnival parade takes place at the SAMBODROMO, with bleachers, tables for four and private boxes lining the parade route near the city center, it takes place over 5 days.  The competing 'schools of samba' are split into two (2) groups (group A & B).  Group B goes first over 2 days.  Then they are followed by the spectacular Group A over 2 days. From the moment the first toe of the samba group crosses the finish line, only 60 minutes can pass, or the group is penalized. Each night averages 12 - 15 groups. Parades start around 7 PM and often don't end until the following morning! The best schools parade on Sunday and Monday nights..

 

Besides the famous parade .. every year there are numerous street parades that take place near the hotels listed.  You can also take a night tour to the actual schools of samba to see them practicing the songs and music.  If you wish, you can participate in the main parade by buying the 'fantasy clothes' (between US$100 - 500 ) which gives you the right to enter in the parade and dance along with about 5,000 other members of the school.

The package prices quoted below does not include transportation to or tickets for the parade as these do not go on sale until the end of the year.  Prices for a 2 day pass in the tourist section (which gives a little more comfort and service) last year were US$ 400.  Tickets can be purchased for as little as US$50 ( and of course are basic comfort seats). Ticket prices are generally not determined until a month before; a ticket is not guaranteed until paid for in full. Be prepared to act fast once rates are available.

There are numerous Carnival balls, some of which are at private clubs for members only. Details on balls open to the public and / or foreign visitors, are generally not made available until a month before.. Entrance tickets are simply that - entrance only and generally do not include table or refreshments. Tables may be available for purchase at additional cost. Costumes are not a requirement except at certain balls - check when purchasing.

PACKAGE INCLUDES:

- Round-trip air (on packages marked in yellow) is included using special low capacity controlled fares from Miami.

- Half day Tijuca & Corcovado excursion

Because it is the city's biggest party, the Cariocas do party! You can expect somewhat curtailed services despite the best efforts of hotel management. Most hotels have a minimum stay requirement, from 4 - 6 nights. And rates are inflated to reflect demand. Air fares, though low season, include surcharges to reflect air space demand.

If you wish to come early, or stay longer, we provide extension stays, transportation, guided tours around the city ... cultural, ecological and traditional.  

NOTE:  AndeTUR has some alternate hotels in Rio and Ipanema that might offer a better price per day for the hotel.  These are smaller hotels that we use year around for tourists passing thru or visiting Rio for a few days.  Transportation from the airport would be by bus (the cheapest) or taxi.  They all include breakfast.   They are a little further from the 'action', but are quite livable.  If you are trying to 'cut costs', please advise and I will get you a quote from one of these.

ABOUT CARNIVAL IN RIO:

Without a doubt, Carnival in Rio is the world's most famous party. While the city dances to the beat for days before it begins, official Carnival days are Saturday through Thursday. During those days, little happens in Rio except Carnival celebrations.
