A little about our history...

The "Rio Negro Ranch", founded in 1895, is situated on the banks of the river Negro, one of the most beautiful and preserved areas of the Pantanal Matogrossense, and offers excellent conditions for your leisure including well-being, security and privacy. For more than a hundred years, the Rondon family (five generations), with loving care and respect, preserved intact it's natural beauty and developed the cattle breeding in the traditional manner. The ranch has recently been opened to "Ecological Tourism" receiving visitors from several countries, and is popular with students and ecological concencious persons.

The "Lodge" and the ranch is conducted in the way of the tradional "swamplander" or 'pantaneiro' as they are called locally; the breakfast, lunch, dinner and barbecues assure that the meals are a pleasure apart, food raised on the ranch, and cooked on a wood burning stove. The house's accomodations are large and comfortable, and visitors are assured an excellent rest after a days program.

The ranch was the film site for the famous Brazilian 'mini-series' - Pantanal.

The Ranch offers many recreational activities; options like: horseback tours, jeep rides, boat trips, fishing or hiking, appreciating the magnificent landscape.

The country is famous for it's natural beauty and for the great varieties of birds and animals.

Rio Negro offers wonderful swimming, white sand beachs, and exciting fishing trips, where you'll can catch: dourados, pacus, surubins e pintados that you'll eat as part of your meals.

Because Rio Negro is so preserved, it is an ideal and natural "habitat" for rare and almost extinct species like "ariranhas" (big otters) that are found there abundantly, with luck you may even see a jaguar (brown or with spots).

How to Arrive at the Fazenda Rio Negro ... ]

You flight will most likely arrive in Sao Paulo, and you will have to fly to Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul (capital).

From Campo Grande, you will catch an air taxi ... the 60 minute flight will allow you to view the extensive plains on the Pantanal.
