Brazil is famous also for its surfing and wind surfing. Miles and miles of remote beaches along its Atlantic coast, and also constant easterly trade winds, blend to form ideal surfing conditions.
CRUISING
Brazil also offers the cruising sailor some of the most unique cruising grounds and 'gunk holes' imaginable. The problem is that only around the major cities and tourist spots are sailing cruises .. and for the most part, they only offer day cruises. There are no 'rentals' per sie, and in the North / Northeast there are only local fishing craft available at this time.
The port at Natal and it's yacht club have for many years been a favotite stopping off spot for cruising yachts from Europe ... few Americans seem to make this stop. Contrary to popular opinion amongst cruising sailors from the states, Brazilian authorities welcome crusing yachts.
Along the coast of Bahia (near Salvador) there are craftsmen still building rustic wooden schooners. This is an interesting trip on its own to visit these shipyards.
