On this coast north to Galinhos, the dunes come down all the way to the sea.

 

 

Touros -

One of the highest points on the Northeast coast, Touros was a colonial settlement.  It was an important in the era of the sugar plantations; today it is an important center in the production of 'coco' and lobster fishing.

São Bento do Norte -

Coastal center for ranching and fishing.  Not well known for tourism.

Galinhos -

Until recently almost totally isolated, the praia of Galinhos has been rapidily developing. A contributing factor has been the discovery of a large offshore reserve of petroleum near this beach. Andetur Brazilian Travel Club, with Tristan Pearson of Navegantes, offers special day trips from Natal to Galinhos. - Approximately US$ 440 (2 - 6 persons) in a Land Rover, all inclusive with food and stay in a local pousada.

 

Macau -

Famous for it's 'salt mines' - major port for exportation on salt.
