This area of the Amazon Basin produces a greater variety of large game fish species than any other in the world. The lodge is an extremely isolated "oasis", which corresponds to very little pressure and lots of fishing action! Located in the blue water region of the southeast Amazon, São Benedito River and its tributaries Azul River and Cururu River are perhaps the most beautiful rivers in the entire region, and they are loaded with aggressive fish. The waters, which vary in depth from 3 to 25 feet and greatly in current speed and bottom structure, create the perfect environment for the quiet fishing paradise.
Nowhere else will you find the brilliantly colored fogo (or fire) peacock bass amongst other common Amazon peacocks, the butterfly and the speckled. Another slow current loving resident of the area is the trairão, an ugly prehistoric looking fish that will tear up all types of lures and go wild when hooked. In the current, the angler can find the menacing looking cachorra (or payara), the high jumping bicudas and the matrinxãs, often caught on spinners and spoons all along the river. The corvina, which looks like a freshwater drum, and the pacú, which resemble a huge piranha, are both commonly caught with diving or sinking lures in moving water. Piranha up to 9 pounds
is frequently caught on artificial. Tambaqui averaging 8 pounds each may
liven up your fishing experience, as well. Should you want to go after
some real monsters, try fishing in the evening with cut bait, for giant
30 to 60 pound catfish. Some examples of these monsters are: cachara,
pirarara, pintado, piraíba, jaú and others. This region offers anglers a great variety of different fishing environments. You can choose to fish in the lagoons in the morning. Then in the afternoon the rapids, or instead try to get a giant catfish in the deep waters close to the waterfalls. On the way back to the lodge, you might want to stop next to the calm water of the river in search of jundiás and capararis. At the lodge there are roomy and carefully laid out 16 - foot aluminum bass boats. They all come ready to fish with 25-hp motors, electric trolling motors, comfortable swivel seats and very knowledgeable guides. The guide controls the boat and the cooler is stocked fully with ice, refreshments and lunch. These are some of the attractions found at the Thaimaçu Lodge. The fishing program will be especially designed for you every evening, depending on your interests.

THE PROGRAMS:
Sporting Fishing: Barra Mansa offers everything that is needed for those who enjoy "Fly Fishing". With both artificial and live bait the fisherman can fish in a calm and peaceful environment. This is because the Rio Negro (Negro River) is the only permitted to fish for recreation (catch and release / fly fishing).
Hiking: The hikes are taken on trails near the farm making it possible to enjoy the Pantanal ecological environment and the natural beauty of the region.
Horseback Riding: The best way to see the region. With saddles, that are typical of this area, (and extremely comfortable) the horses are excellent riding companions. The open green fields, bush land, mountain ranges, bays and salinas, and exuberant faun and flora make scenery the best possible for horseback riding. It is possible riding with cattle and see how the pantaneiro cowboy life is.
Boat Rides: The Rio Negro (Negro River) is one of the jewels of the Pantanal. We can find animals such as capybaras, otters, alligators, various species of birds and, with a little bit of luck , even a jaguar. Slow and calm, the river is rich in fish. Sport fishing, photography and bird watching are pleasant possibilities while on the excursion.
Car excursions: These excursions are made by pick-ups, which are equipped with benches and special supports. The trails show you which direction to go, and you can "give yourself in" to the Pantanal. There are many woods, bays, and magnificent fields where all the rich animal life reveals itself: capybaras, deer macaws, monkeys, armadillos, anteaters, coatis, and other animals. Always looking for the opportunity to film and photograph, there are strategic stopping points. At night there are excursions for spot lighting animals.
